Rey Diogo is one of the few Master Technicians in Brazilian jiu jitsu today. He achieved his black belt under the world famous professor and master Carlson Gracie since 1981 and started Teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the Carlson Gracie Team since 1990. From 1990 to 1994, he began teaching when only a blue belt for kids 3 to 16 years old, later on advancing to teaching adults class and continued on for 4 years.
From 1993-1994, Ricardo Diogo became part of the Carlson Gracie Competition Team in Rio de Janeiro. He also taught adult classes at the Rio Sport Centering Copacabana. He was also a Two-time Brazilian National Champion and many times Regional Champion of Rio de Janeiro Brazilian weight-class and absolute (open weight category).
From 1996 to 1997 Ricardo Diogo was asked to join in partnership at Carlson Gracie Jr.’s academy and also to become an Instructor for the center. He taught there for over a year and a half.
In 1997, he was invited to open up his own school in California. The academy was also the headquarters to the Carlson Gracie Team training camp, to train it’s fighters for any upcoming competitions. Fighters like Vitor Belfort, Wallid Ismail, Carlao Barreto, Murilo Bustamante and many well known MMA fighters spent a lot of time training under Rey’s tutelage. Rey also taught kids and adults classes.
Rey Diogo’s Competitive History
In 2005, he became Pan-American Champion in the Heavyweight Division. He also won the 2005 Pan-American Champion in the open Division. In 1996, he competed in the Chicago Challenge II and won the Heavyweight Championship belt as well, following that, he won the State of Illinois Submission Championship in the Middleweight class division.
